This will bring us confidence to implement our actionsJakarta (ANTARA) - An official from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Syaiful Anwar on Thursday highlighted the importance of measurement, reporting and verification to ensure transparency in climate action.
During the 2022 Climate Festival held virtually, he noted that MRV is a part of the push for transparency agreed upon by the parties ratifying the Paris Agreement.
MRV seeks to ensure that climate change mitigation is carried out based on the methods and/or standards that have been established and agreed upon by the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP).

The mandate related to MRV has been laid down in Article 13 of the Paris Agreement, which encourages parties to realize the transparency framework.
The goal is to develop openness and mutual trust between the parties that have ratified the Paris Agreement and to ensure confidence in effective climate action implementation.

The Indonesian government on its part is encouraging “one data” management to meet Indonesia's climate target based on the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document.

It recently raised its greenhouse gas emission reduction target in the Enhanced NDC document submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat in September.
Indonesia is now targeting to reduce emissions by 31.89 percent compared to 29 percent earlier through its own efforts. Meanwhile, it is planning to cut emissions by 43.2 percent compared to 41 percent earlier with international support.
During the 2022 Climate Festival on Wednesday, forest and land fire handling director at the ministry, Basar Manullang, informed that forest and land fires in Indonesia are primarily caused by human activities.
