"Indonesia is ready to become a locomotive of global collaboration to create security and prosperity in the region," Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia Heri Akhmadi said at a diplomatic reception in Tokyo, according to a written statement released on Friday.

Japan has been one of Indonesia's most important and strategic partners since 1958, and the two countries have worked closely at the regional and multilateral levels, he noted.

This year, the leaders of the two countries met to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual concern, he said.

He stressed that to face the dynamics of global development, collaboration among countries is necessary.

Meanwhile, Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, who also attended the event, said the Indonesian leadership of the G20 forum this year and ASEAN in 2023 and the Japanese leadership of G7 in 2023 offer a chance to the two countries to address global and regional issues.

"Next year, Japan and Indonesia will commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties. With the longstanding friendship, I hope that the bilateral cooperation can be further enhanced in the fields of infrastructure, economy, and security," he added.
