Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tropical cyclone Nalgae in the South China Sea is moving away from Indonesian territory, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).



BMKG forecaster Nurul Pramiftah said here on Monday that the tropical cyclone was observed moving at a speed of three knots or five kilometers per hour.



She said that based on the results of an updated analysis at 7 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Monday, the intensity of the tropical cyclone is predicted to tend to increase in the next 24 hours along with its movement to the north.

"In the analysis, the tropical cyclone is located about 1,700 kilometers to the north of Tarakan, North Kalimantan, with a maximum wind speed of 60 knots or 110 km per hour," she informed.



The tropical cyclone will indirectly impact weather conditions in Indonesia in the next 24 hours, she added.



The cyclone may trigger rain with moderate to heavy intensity, which could be accompanied by strong winds, in parts of the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, West Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan, Pramiftah said.

In addition, the tropical cyclone may also cause high waves in some parts of Indonesia.



Waves with heights of 1.25 to 2.5 meters are likely to be seen in the territorial waters of the Anambas Islands, the waters of the Talaud Islands, the northern waters of Halmahera, the Halmahera Sea, the northern waters of West Papua to Papua, and the Pacific Ocean in the north of Halmahera to Papua.



Meanwhile, the Natuna Islands waters have the potential to witness waves reaching heights of 2.5 to 4.0 meters and the North Natuna Sea 4.0 to 6.0 meters.
