Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Lampung Chusnunia Chalim has said that the existence of proper school health units (UKSes) can help the younger generation develop the mindset of taking care of their health from an early age.

"The school environment is a very complex scope because (it is a place for the) process of teaching and learning, finding out interests and talents, and education about health takes place here. (Hence,) the presence of a proper UKS will continue to be encouraged," she said here on Thursday.

According to Chalim, health is an important sector that has a big impact on the sustainability of other sectors, so education on healthy lifestyles must be provided to school students as early as possible.

“(The activities of) UKSes must continue to be encouraged to progress because it is important to equip and change the mindset of children about caring for health from an early age, as health is the most important and valuable asset for us," she added.

She said that if the operation of the UKSes in the educational environment in Lampung runs decently, the younger generation is expected to have sufficient competence regarding health.

"As the COVID-19 pandemic has lasted for two years, it can be assumed that understanding health is important, so if the health sector can be decently organized and able to anticipate many things, especially for children, it will also form a healthy, strong and productive society,” she added.

According to Chalim, as an effort to support UKSes at schools, assistance has been provided for 30 school health units in Lampung.

“Assistance has been given to 30 UKSes in some regions. It is hoped that more UKSes can get it,” she said.
