The former minister of social affairs announced that there had been an increase in positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Java in the last four days.
"This increase in COVID-19 cases has also occurred nationally. Even according to Worldometer data, as of November 5, 2022, Indonesia is ranked 9th globally," she said in Surabaya, Sunday.
Based on data from the East Java COVID-19 Task Force, there have been 616,397 positive confirmed cases, with 2,011 active cases as of November 5, 2022 .
Governor Parawansa informed that the addition of daily COVID-19 cases in East Java has been observed to increase since November 1, 2022.
"It started from 595 cases per day, rose to 580 cases, and further moved up to 681 cases, with the highest number of cases recorded at 685 on November 4 and it slightly decreased to 669 cases per day on November 5. Hopefully, it will continue to decline," she added.
The governor noted that the number of positive COVID-19 cases also showed an upward trend in several countries due to the spread of the Omicron XBB sub-variant.

Although the Ministry of Health stated that the Omicron XBB sub-variant did not cause severe symptoms, she advised the public to stay vigilant.
"There is no need to panic. Reinforcing health protocols and accelerating vaccination is the key," she conveyed.
According to her, the economic and public activities have returned to normal.
"This normal condition must be maintained. I urge all those who work, study, and carry out social, religious, cultural, and other activities to continue to follow health protocols," she remarked.
As of Sunday, data from the COVID-19 dashboard vaccination showed that 205.190.090 people (87,44%) have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 171.989.257 people (73,29%) have received the second dose, 65.379.116 people (27,86%) have received the third or booster dose, and 682.436 people (46,46%) have received the second booster.
