In commemoration of National Fish Day today, the consumption of one ton of crabs is carried out together at the Lampung Governor's Office ComplexBandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The Lampung provincial government held an event for communal consumption of one ton of Portunus pelagicus or rajungan crabs to mark National Fish Day and to boost regional fish intake.
"In commemoration of National Fish Day today, the consumption of one ton of crabs is carried out together at the Lampung Governor's Office Complex," Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi remarked here on Friday.
Djunaidi said that the event of consuming one ton of crabs together aimed at optimizing the potential of the region's fisheries and maritime resources and increase fish consumption.

"This rajungan crab is the mascot of the National Fish Day commemoration event here. It is expected that with adequate fish consumption, the people of Lampung would become competitive. Moreover, the potential of rajungan crab here is amazing," he remarked.
According to Djunaidi, the maritime sector was the economic driver in Lampung, so ecosystem sustainability to maintain productivity should be prioritized.
"The aquaculture and maritime (products) that are currently being increased is rajungan crab, and there are several main producing areas, such as Central Lampung, Tulang Bawang, and East Lampung districts, whose productivity must be maintained," the governor remarked.
He expected that the activity to consume crabs together can be a way of educating the public about the importance of eating fish for a healthy life.
Meanwhile, Tiara, a resident who participated in the event, expressed her enthusiasm.

"This crab-eating event is unique because, for most people, crab is one of the fishery products that are expensive," she remarked.
She also expressed optimism that this form of activity would be held continuously by presenting various types of fishery products in order to increase the people's liking to consume fish.
"(This is) especially for children with other types of fish, so that fishers can be happy about it too because their catch is bought," she added.
