Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen is coordinating the assistance donated or distributed by various parties for earthquake victims in Cianjur, West Java.

"The aid donated by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and other parties is ready; we will immediately calculate the (total amount of) the assistance to be distributed to the Cianjur earthquake victims," he informed here on Wednesday.

According to him, the coordination aligns with the instructions of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who has asked the Central Java PMI to send medical assistance to the disaster site.

The deputy governor expressed his condolences for the quake victims and expressed the hope that they would remain strong in facing the disaster's impact.

"The disaster in Cianjur is a national grief so it is a must for other regions to mobilize to provide assistance," he said.

Furthermore, Maimoen urged the residents of Central Java to remain alert for natural disasters that can potentially occur during the rainy season this year.

According to him, there is potential for disaster at any time during high-intensity rainfall.

"We instruct the people of Central Java to be vigilant because of the high intensity of rainfall. We must be vigilant, be it landslides or other disasters," he said.

The 5.6-magnitude earthquake that shook Cianjur, West Java, on Monday afternoon (November 21, 2022) damaged thousands of buildings and claimed 271 lives as of Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Governor Pranowo said his party is ready to assist in building temporary housing for the earthquake victims.

"The temporary housing will be prepared soon, and of course, the reconstruction needs support from many parties," he said on Tuesday (November 22).

He further informed that he has intensively communicated with West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil regarding the assistance needed by the affected regions.

"I asked the Central Java BPBD (Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency) to communicate with West Java BPBD about what assistance is needed," Pranowo said.
