Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digital economy, with focus toward digital entrepreneurship, became a crucial factor in accelerating economic growth, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated.

Massive economic digitalization has opened entrepreneurship opportunities, created jobs, and encouraged economic growth, the minister noted through an official statement, Saturday.

Digital entrepreneurship is being encouraged to drive subregional growth as a whole, he remarked on the sidelines of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-The Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Ministerial Level Meeting in West Kalimantan.

The issue of economic digitalization also becomes a priority in Indonesia's Presidency within the 2023 ASEAN, given the US$330-billion worth GDP potential in 2030 in the ASEAN region.

The ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement study is also currently undergoing and is targeted to be completed in the middle of 2023.

Meanwhile, the negotiation will commence at the end of 2023, and it is targeted to be completed by 2025.

Indonesia's Presidency during the 2023 ASEAN themed, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth” will focus on the recovery process, digital economy, and sustainable agendas.

This becomes the foundational map for ASEAN to develop the economy amid the future crisis, including in digital economy, sustainable investment for a greener ASEAN, and local currency resolution with cross-border transaction interoperability.

The BIMP-EAGA business forum is expected to enhance cooperation between businessmen in the region.

Hartarto expects that the forum can produce a beneficial agreement to improve the economy in the BIMP-EAGA region. He urged entrepreneurs to expand or even start in the EAGA region as an investment destination.

The minister also highlighted the need to expand the BIMP-EAGA cooperation to achieve a sustainable future vision.

The 25th BIMP-EAGA Ministerial Level Meeting was held in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, with the theme of "Support Competitiveness and Climate Resilience."
