Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The South Sulawesi government and the South Sulawesi Representative Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) have distributed 225 thousand eggs to families at risk of stunting.

The assistance was provided to Makassar city, Gowa district, Takalar district, and Jeneponto district.

Assistant I for Governance and Community Welfare at the South Sulawesi government, Aslam Patonangi, said here on Wednesday that the assistance was a form of corporate social responsibility (CSR), which was provided under a partnership with poultry company PT Satwa Utama Raya.

The phase II distribution of the assistance was carried out symbolically at the grand launch of the “High-Protein Food Provision to Support Stunting Reduction Acceleration Efforts in South Sulawesi.”

Head of the BKKBN's South Sulawesi Representative Office, Andi Ritamariani, said that as part of phase II distribution of the egg assistance, a total of 7,500 trays of eggs were distributed in the four regions: 328 trays in Makassar city, 1,031 trays in Takalar district, 3,816 trays in Jeneponto district, and 2,325 trays in Gowa district.

The provision of eggs is a form of implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 72 of 2021 regarding stunting reduction acceleration, BKKBN Head’s Regulation Number 12 of 2021 regarding Stunting Reduction Action Plan (RAN PASTI), as well as the South Sulawesi Governor’s Regulation Number 19 of 2022 on stunting reduction acceleration, she informed.

All elements of the government, private parties, and the community must collaborate for reducing stunting prevalence, she said.

"We need to say that the stunting reduction acceleration team (TPPS) of South Sulawesi province has worked to maximize all potential in an effort to reduce the stunting rate in South Sulawesi, which is still high at 27.4 percent, or still above the national average of 24 percent," she added.
