The ministry is also encouraging coordination between different sectors to prevent DBD diseaseJakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK) has urged the people to implement the Draining, Closing, and Burying (3M) Plus policy to prevent dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD).
Implementing the 3M Plus policy means that people must drain and clean places that are frequently used as water reservoirs, Deputy for the Coordination of Health Quality Improvement and Population Development at the ministry, Agus Suprapto, said.
"Do not just drain them, you have to clean them," he explained to ANTARA here on Wednesday.
"For instance, you cannot just drain the water in a bathtub, you have to brush it using a toothbrush and a soap," he said.
In addition, people must also tightly close water reservoirs, he added.
"Moreover, bury used objects that have the potential to hold water since they may become a breeding ground for Aedes Aegypti mosquito, especially during the rainy season with high humidity levels," he informed.
The implementation of 3M Plus includes using anti-mosquito medicines or lotions to prevent mosquito bites while sleeping, Suprapto said.
It also involves the utilization of mosquito nets while sleeping to prevent mosquito bites.
"Then, the most important thing that people should remember is not to make a habit of hanging clothes, such as hanging a shirt behind the door," he added.
"This is because it can serve as a resting place for mosquitoes," he explained.
According to Suprapto, it is especially important for people to implement the 3M Plus during the rainy season.
"To reduce DBD incidents or events, the people should truly be wary of their respective environmental conditions, continue to remember 3M Plus, and maintain cleanliness," he said.
The PMK Ministry is continuing to encourage other ministries and institutions, including regional governments, to continue disseminating information on 3M Plus to the public, he added.
"The ministry is also encouraging coordination between different sectors to prevent DBD disease," he informed.
