Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Railway Company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) served 154 thousand long-distance train passengers during the peak of 2022 Christmas holiday, or two days ahead of Christmas.

"During the period, there were 154,920 people who departed using long distance train from various destinations to take a vacation or to go home," KAI spokesman Joni Martinus noted through a statement, Saturday.

The occupancy rate for the train reached 114 percent and KAI provided a total of 135,339 seats for long distance train on December 23.

To serve customers during the peak of Christmas holiday, KAI operated 236 long distance trains.

The number of long distance train passengers increased by 21 percent as compared to the day before when the company served 128,224 long distance train customers.

Moreover, ticket orders are estimated to rise once again during the 2023 New Year Holiday on January 1, 2023.

Until now, based on the sales data, the return peak is projected to occur on January 1-2, 2023, Martinus informed.

The majority of the long distance train customers that traveled during the peak of Christmas holiday departed from Jakarta and other major cities.

There were 17 thousand customers that departed from Pasar Senen Station and 14 thousand from Gambir Station in Jakarta, 11 thousand from Bandung Station, 10 thousand from Gubeng Station and six thousand from Pasar Turi station in Surabaya.

These customers' most frequent routes during the period comprise Jakarta - Yogyakarta, Jakarta - Bandung, Jakarta - Surabaya, Jakarta - Purwokerto, Bandung - Jakarta, Bandung - Surabaya, Surabaya - Yogyakarta and others.

KAI expressed its appreciation to all of its customers for trusting their travel during this Christmas holiday period to KAI.

Martinus also deemed that all customers have been orderly and complied with the health protocol while using KAI service.

In general, the total number of long distance train tickets provided during the Christmas and New Year period from December 22, 2022 until January 8, 2023 reached 2,4 million seats.

Meanwhile the number of tickets sold until December 24, 2022 is pegged at 1,1 million. This figure will still increase since the sales still continues.

"We also urge the people who seek to ride a train during this Christmas and New Year holidays to plan your travel well since there are still many tickets," he said.
