"The number is increasing by 32.98 percent as compared to the Christmas-New Year's Day holiday transportation movement during the same period in 2021, during which 2,644,196 passengers were recorded," the ministry's spokesperson, Adiba Irawati, stated here, Sunday .
According to the seven-day data collected from the ministry's transportation observation posts, the highest cumulative number of passengers recorded is air transport reached 1,178,678 passengers, she said.

The number of air transport passengers for the year-end holidays this year increased by 19.98 percent as compared to the same period last year at 943,095 passengers, the spokesperson added.
Irawati remarked that while ferry transport carried a total of 840,423 passengers for this year-end period -- an increase of 27.7 percent from 624,355 passengers last year -- long-range sea transport recorded 355,890 passengers, increasing by 25.75 percent, from 264,226 passengers logged in 2021.
Moreover, 749,965 passengers utilized railway transport during this year-end holiday period, increasing by 57.28 percent, from 320,312 passengers last year, she stated.
Meanwhile, the ministry highlighted that passenger movements peaked on December 23, 2022, two days before Christmas, the official noted.
On that day, 244,717 passengers used air transport services, while 159,017 passengers used ferry transport, 156,990 passengers were served by railway transport, 142,682 passengers used road transport, and 57,123 passengers used sea transport, she elaborated.

"In line with our predictions, the last two days before Christmas saw the highest movement during the Christmas holiday period. However, the passenger movement surge remains under control," Irawati stated.
Meanwhile, state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga recorded a cumulative number of 1,077,956 vehicles departing from the Greater Jakarta area on the last seven days before Christmas.
The vehicle movement recorded this year increased by 0.77 percent, as compared with 1,069,738 vehicles recorded during the same period last year.
This year's transportation movement monitoring is conducted at 111 terminals, 22 crossing ports, 51 airports, 110 seaports, 13 railway operations divisions, and four toll gates.
