It was very low as compared to men’s TPAK that had reached 83.87 percent.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Minister Bintang Puspayoga invited young women to increase their involvement in entrepreneurship to improve the participation of women in the economic sector.

"We, the PPPA Ministry, really appreciate all the initiatives carried out by various parties to strengthen women's MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) and economic recovery, including building the millennials’ entrepreneurial spirit," she noted in a statement on Thursday.

The attempt aims to prepare young women to become economically independent in future and be able to partake in developing the country’s economy, she stated.

The minister emphasized that equal participation of women and men in all sectors is the key to advancing a nation. However, there is still inequality in women's participation, especially in the economic sector.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the total female population in Indonesia reaches 133 million out of the total of 273 million Indonesians, and 53.6 percent of this figure constituted women of the productive age.

However, the agency recorded that women’s Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) in August 2022 was only 53.41 percent.

"It was very low compared to men’s TPAK that had reached 83.87 percent," the minister noted.

Hence, to reduce the inequality between women and men in the economic sector, she encourages young women to improve their economic independence through entrepreneurship.

The attempt is in accordance with one of the priority issues of the PPPA Ministry of increasing women's empowerment in entrepreneurship with gender perspectives.

Puspayoga said that women's empowerment attempts in the entrepreneurship sector had been carried out by the PPPA Ministry, among others, through the implementation of the Women-Friendly and Caring for Children Villages/Sub-Districts (D/KRPPA) Program.

Her side has also collaborated with various community organizations in conducting women's entrepreneurship and leadership training in 15 provinces as well as 29 districts and cities.

"It is expected that women's empowerment in the entrepreneurship sector with gender perspectives can support women entrepreneurs and millennial entrepreneurs to develop an innovative and sustainable business," she added.
