Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto, who also has an architectural background in Makassar, stated on Thursday that the Algemeen Ingenieur Architecten (AIA ASEAN) Congress that will be held in Makassar City is a form of appreciation from world architects for carrying out activities in Makassar.
"We are very prepared for the Congress, and Makassar has become one of the leading metropolitan cities. We even have the tagline Makassar City of the World," Pomanto stated.
Pomanto, nicknamed "Danny," stated that the presence of architectural delegations from various countries in Southeast Asia has a huge impact on the community.
Makassar City will not only get a good name but will also have another impact in the form of a boost to the community's economy due to the circulation of money from delegates.
"This is the trust of the world community, especially from our brothers and sisters in Southeast Asia. It will have many impacts. The tourism sector will also improve," he stated.
Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) Budi Yulianto stated that his team met with the mayor of Makassar to follow up on the plan for the international congress.
Yulianto revealed that the event has been scheduled since 2022 but the time has not yet come, so it is scheduled this year.
"The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has agreed on the location in Makassar. We are trying to meet with the mayor whether he is still in line with the event. There is no exact date yet, but the plan is for the third or fourth Sunday of July 2023," he added.
