Let's take care of the cleanliness of Malalayang Beach, which has been revitalized and revamped.
Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Friday urged the residents of North Sulawesi province to maintain the cleanliness of Malalayang Beach in Manado city to help turn it into the city’s new tourist hotspot.

"Let us keep Malalayang Beach, which has been revitalized and revamped, clean," he remarked after inaugurating the Manado Beach Walk (MBW) on Malalayang Beach on Friday.

He said that the cost of revitalizing the tourism area was about Rp96 billion.

It is hoped that such revitalization attempts can be carried out in other areas across Manado city, he added.

After delivering his remarks and signing the inauguration inscription, the President explored Malalayang Beach and greeted and took pictures with visitors.

The President was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey, and Manado Mayor Andrei Angow at the inauguration event.

The task of developing Malalayang Beach and Bunaken Tourism Area was undertaken by state-run construction company PT Nindya Karya in 2020–2022.

Floating stalls, a playground, a jogging track, as well as a globe monument with coelacanth fish statues were built at the tourist destination during the period.

Indonesian coelacanth (Latimeria menadoensis) is a fish species originating from the Early Devonian era, which can still be found in northern Sulawesi and western Papua waters. It was first discovered in Manado city, and thus, it became the city’s icon.

Meanwhile, the floating stalls set up at the site can be used by people, especially micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players, who earlier made a living around Malalayang Beach.

In addition to inaugurating the revitalized Malalayang Beach, Widodo visited the Bunaken Tourism Area and launched the revamp of Ahmad Yani Mosque on Friday, the third day of his working visit to North Sulawesi province.

The police and military have deployed a joint team of 2,340 personnel to secure the President’s working visit, the head of the public relations division of North Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast informed earlier.
