“Let us maintain unity and integrity of the nation for an advanced Indonesia,” Maharani noted in a written statement received here on Saturday.
Maharani also wished a happy Chinese New Year -- which falls on Sunday (January 22) -- to the Chinese community celebrating it.
“Happy Chinese New Year 2023 to our brothers and sisters who celebrate it. May the Chinese New Year bring peace and prosperity to all of us. Gong Xi Fa Cai," she remarked.
The house speaker reminded Indonesian people to continuously uphold tolerance between people of different religions, ethnicities, and cultures. Maharani also called on people to respond to those various differences by showing mutual respect.
“Let us welcome the Chinese New Year with a spirit of companionship. Let us maintain harmony by helping each other and continue to mutually cooperate for a great Indonesia,” she remarked.

Maharani expressed optimism that the Chinese New Year 2023 would shower blessings on Confucians celebrating it, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation that has improved this year.
“Hopefully, you all can celebrate the Chinese New Year safely and smoothly,” she stated.
The former coordinating minister for human development and culture urged the government and security forces to ensure the comfort of Confucians in celebrating Chinese New Year 2023.
Maharani also advised that Chinese New Year rituals be carried out by still adhering to the COVID-19 health protocols.
