Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Greater Jakarta or Metro Jaya Police's Traffic Directorate has readied personnel at congestion-prone points in Jakarta and its adjoining regions during the 2023 Chinese New Year holiday.

"We will prepare members to conduct traffic engineering at congestion-prone points," Director of Traffic at the Greater Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Latif Usman confirmed here on Saturday.

Usman explained that traffic engineering schemes will be implemented according to the situation in each region.

Apart from readying personnel at points that often experience traffic jams, the Traffic Directorate has also prepared patrol teams to tackle congested points on toll roads and arterial roads.

According to Usman, the potential congested points are on the Cikampek Toll Road, Jagorawi Toll Road, and Merak Toll Road as well as other arterial roads.

"We deploy personnel on toll roads and arterial roads and patrol is carried out at the Cikampek Toll Road, Jagorawi Toll Road, and Merak Toll Road," he explained.

In addition, he noted that police officers will pay attention to access to several tourist attractions in Jakarta in order to create a smooth traffic flow.

Traffic control officers have been stationed at some tourist destinations in Jakarta and its surroundings, he stated.

The Greater Jakarta Police has prepared 4,550 joint personnel to secure the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The joint personnel comprised 1,403 members from the Greater Jakarta Police, 1,513 from local police stations in the Greater Jakarta area, 343 members of the Indonesian Military (TNI), and 1,291 from local governments.

According to data, 255 vihara or Buddhist monasteries come under the jurisdiction of the Greater Jakarta Police. The number of personnel that will secure the monasteries will be adjusted to each activity there.

With the preparations, it is expected that the community can participate in maintaining order and security, so that this year's Chinese New Year celebrations can be carried out safely and comfortably.
