Jakarta (ANTARA) - The performance of the nation’s bureaucracy is measured by its impact on people's lives, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan RB) Abdullah Azwar Anas has said.

"If the value of RB (bureaucratic reform) is linked to performance allowances, surely the impact on the people will not be much," he said.

He made the remarks at a national seminar on “Food Sovereignty for Achieving Farmer Welfare and Consolidation of Making Farmers Prosperous Program (MSP),” at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Party School in Jakarta on Friday.

This has encouraged the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform to launch the "Impact Bureaucratic Reform" program, which seeks to ensure the bureaucracy has an optimal impact on alleviating poverty, increasing investment, and implementing digitalization, such as the electronic-based government system (SPBE), he added.

Impactful bureaucratic performance is needed by the Indonesian people to overcome the threat of a global economic crisis in 2023, the minister said.

Although they are not directly related, his ministry has tried to anticipate the global economic crisis by seeking better governance for ensuring a better economic system, he said.

At the same seminar, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said his party fully supports the commitment of the ministry to benchmark bureaucratic performance based on the impact it has on the people.

Thus, the performance of the bureaucracy can really provide good and real changes in people's lives, he added. A zero percent poverty rate is PDIP's political target, he noted.

"Zero percent poverty is our political target (PDIP), not just the target of getting votes. Why is the vote tally going up but poverty cannot be resolved by means of the powers?” he asked.
