Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry raises awareness about human rights matters in all 17 districts and cities in Southeast Sulawesi.

"The handling of human rights issues is a noble task. Currently, oftentimes, there are violations against human rights. Hence, let us pursue synergy and collaboration in promoting human rights (concerns)," he remarked in Kendari on Tuesday.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry Silvester Sili Laba stated that the efforts to raise awareness on human rights issues were crucial, so everyone would realize the type of rights they were entitled to.

The office hosted a coordination meeting on human rights issue reports at the regional, district, and city scope as well as preparation for the 2023 data collection on evaluation of human rights concerns.

"This is in order to provide information and understanding on evaluation of human rights concerns in districts and cities as well as reporting of human rights action (progress)," Laba noted.

The event was also held to ensure and maintain collaboration among the Law and Human Rights Ministry, the provincial government, and district- and city-level governments, as well as to improve regional public services based on human rights.

"Let us unite our perception and commitment to consistently become the best in offering services to people in accordance with our respective task and functions," he noted.

Human rights, comprising the right to live, right to freedom, and right to feel safe, were crucial in protecting people, so they could live with dignity, he emphasized.

Laba noted that according to the 2021-2025 action plan stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 53 of 2021, the government would currently focus on protecting, honoring, and promoting the advancement of human rights of vulnerable people, including of women.

"Moreover, the focus is on the protection of children's rights, protection of people with disability rights, and protection of rights of indigenous people," he elaborated.
