Tanjung Selor, North Kalimanta (ANTARA) - As many as eight provinces in Indonesia, including North Kalimantan, have registered economic growth that exceeded the inflation rate, according to government agency Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

"A good example being Maluku. The economic growth is great, 22.94 percent. It's inflation rate is just 4.27 percent. The same trend is observed in North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Jakarta, and West Nusa Tenggara," Head of BPS Margo Yuwono remarked.

Yuwono delivered the statement at a virtual inflation control coordination meeting led by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian on Wednesday, February 2, 2023.

He noted that North Kalimantan's economic growth was recorded at 5.34 percent, with low inflation rate at 4.47 percent.

Moreover, Central Sulawesi's economic growth reached 15.17 percent, with inflation rate at only 5.96 percent. Jakarta managed to record an economic growth of 5.25 percent, with the inflation rate capped at 4.21 percent.

Central Kalimantan clocked an economic growth of 6.45 percent and inflation rate of 6.23 percent, whereas Papua's economic growth was recorded at 8.97 percent, with low inflation rate at 5.68 percent.

"Papua has an economic growth of 8.97 percent, while its inflation rate is only 5.68 percent. It means that in aggregate terms, if economic growth is interpreted with the macro (concept), it is an increase in income from the community," Yuwono said.

"This means that in aggregate terms, income growth is reflected in economic growth, it has increased by 8.97 percent and is higher than inflation," he added.

Yuwono reminded everyone to use discretion to properly interpret economic growth, considering it was related to income distribution and the sources of growth for a province.

"The others must be given notes since their economic growth aggregate is shifting slower than inflation," he remarked.
