Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Health Office has urged parents to carry out early detection to prevent atypical progressive acute kidney injury (GGAPA) and minimize its potential to worsen children's health.

"Parents are expected to be more disciplined in putting masks on children, avoid sick people, maintain food, environment, and personal hygiene," Head of the Jakarta Health Office Widyastuti said here on Friday.

Early detection can be undertaken by monitoring the quantity and frequency of sick children's urination, she informed.

If there is any decline in the amount of urine within a span of 24 hours or absence of urine for 12 hours, children must be taken to the nearest hospital for further examination, she said.

"Do not wait until children experience emergency conditions such as body swelling, decreased consciousness, and shortness of breath," she added.

People can ask questions or deliver reports regarding atypical progressive acute kidney injury to the health office on the number 082213888006.

Moreover, the Jakarta Health Office also urged parents to understand the methods to handle fever without using medication first, especially if infants are experiencing fever.

The initial step that parents must take when their children have a fever is to measure their temperature using a thermometer.

Children can be considered to have a fever if their temperature reaches 38 degrees Celsius or more, she explained.

Next, parents should use warm water compress, avoid the use of thick clothes, and ensure that the children take enough fluids.

Parents must apply healthy lifestyles, consume complete food with balanced nutrition, and avoid consuming limited hard drugs without a doctor's prescription.

The Jakarta Health Office is raising awareness and is conducting epidemiological investigations of suspected acute kidney injury cases.

After almost three months with no new cases, the Jakarta Health Office detected two new GGAPA cases again on January 25 and January 26, 2023.
