"IDAI continues to coordinate with the government and authorized institutions regarding the investigation of cases," IDAI chairperson Piprim Basarah informed in a written statement received on Tuesday.
The Indonesian Government has taken precautionary action by stopping the distribution of Praxion syrup while conducting an investigation to unearth a clear cause behind the two latest atypical progressive acute kidney injury cases in Jakarta.
The IDAI has appealed to the community to wait for the results of the complete investigation and remain alert for any decline in their children’s urine output.
Basarah said that if children experience low-grade fever, they can be given a compress and made to wear thin clothing.
Separately, Head of the Communication and Public Services Bureau of the Health Ministry Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that the investigation of the Food and Drug Control Agency (BPOM) is focusing on testing drug products and drug samples consumed by patients.
"The testing of samples from the leftover medicines as well as from the production and distribution chains is still ongoing today. We are waiting for the results," she informed.
Tarmizi said that the BPOM has instructed the manufacturer to independently withdraw Praxion medicine from all markets in Indonesia.
While waiting for the investigation to be completed, the ministry has advised health facilities to give powder-based medicines as substitutes for syrup medicines.
"We have appealed to pharmacies not to give syrup medicines that are bought independently by consumers before an official statement from the BPOM is issued," she remarked.
