The support was expressed by Japan's Finance Minister, Shun'ichi Suzuki, during a bilateral meeting prior to a conference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
"Support from Japan for this commitment is a good and positive news," Minister Indrawati said in an official statement received here on Tuesday.
It has been deemed such because President Joko Widodo is promoting the energy transition mechanism (ETM) during Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship and ASEAN+3 chairmanship this year and has said that there would be many exhibitions on the clean energy project.
Japan is paying extra attention to energy, particularly renewable energy, to pursue the zero carbon emissions target.
Minister Suzuki also responded positively to Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN and ASEAN+3 2023 as well as expressed support for Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization (CMIM) becoming more flexible in ensuring economic stability and regional finance in the midst of a global disaster and pandemic.
Minister Indrawati said that President Widodo also supported Japan's initiative to establish a new facility for CMIM.
She commended Japan's support for the 2022 G20 Presidency, which was hosted in the midst of global turmoil.
Japan will support capacity and role improvement at ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), particularly for ASEAN+3 Finance Process, by giving new initiatives and developing management and inclusivity. At the conclusion of the meeting, Japan expressed its continuous support for Indonesia in the process of its becoming a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in February 2023.
Minister Indrawati and her officials are participating in the IMF-JICA Conference in Tokyo, Japan, on February 14. The forum serves as an opportunity for ministers, central bank governors of Asia-Pacific countries, as well as officials of IMF and JICA to exchange information about post-pandemic development.
Two themes were covered in the latest conference—“Economic Setbacks from the Pandemic and Fiscal Policies During the Exit Stage” and “The Role of Fiscal Policy in Addressing Climate Change Challenges and Ensuring a Shift to a More Resilient Economy.”
