Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said he expects the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), which is scheduled to be held in Bali next year, to yield concrete recommendations on overcoming the global water crisis.

"He (President Widodo) has hoped that the 10th World Water Forum will not only be an ordinary conference, but also generate concrete action recommendations," Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said at Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.

The minister made the statement after he accompanied the President in receiving delegates from the World Water Council on Wednesday.

During the meeting with the World Water Council, Hadimuljono said that President Widodo has proposed that the forum discuss six main topics, including the water needs of mankind and the environment considering the current global water crisis.

Furthermore, the minister informed that the kick-off meeting for the 10th WWF is being held from February 15 to 16, 2023, in Jakarta.

The meeting has been joined by the board of governors of the World Water Council, which has 56 members. In addition, more than 1,400 participants are scheduled to attend the meeting.

"Hopefully, this kick-off meeting can run well, thus it will be able to gather all stakeholders in the water sector to pay more attention to water resources management problems," Hadimuljono said.

Meanwhile, World Water Council president Loïc Fauchon lauded the support of President Widodo and Indonesian stakeholders in the water sector for the implementation of the meeting.

"We have to prepare for the next (10th) World Water Forum, which will be held in Bali next year. Together, while coordinating (for the implementation of the 10th WWF), we strive to provide new solutions, which will help to increase access to water for billions of people," he stated.

Besides the PUPR Minister, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar accompanied President Widodo to the meeting.

The 10th WWF, themed “Water for Shared Prosperity,” will be organized from May 18–24, 2024.
