The FKPT must proactively educate on the importance of adopting the spirit of brotherhood and unity in pursuing democracy in the political year
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) called on all members of the Counter-Terrorism Communication Forum (FKPT) to proactively educate and persuade people to maintain peace and unity as the general election draws near.

"FKPT can also take part in educating, so our people are not trapped in hatred and conflicts among (their own people), which is the effect of polarization and identity politics," BNPT Head Boy Rafli Amar noted in a written statement received here on Tuesday.

Amar delivered the statement during the 10th Counter-Terrorism Communication Forum National Meeting that brought up the theme of "Improving Unity for Peaceful and Harmonious Indonesia" hosted on Monday, February 20.

Amar said the political years tended to cause social polarization and identity politics that stemmed from the use of racialism, beliefs, and groups issues as leverage, all of which are often depicted as instances of intolerance, violence, and hatred.

Such matters should be addressed before they can lead to disintegration and chaos among the people.

"The FKPT must proactively educate on the importance of adopting the spirit of brotherhood and unity in pursuing democracy in the political year," he emphasized.

The forum covers seven aspects or issues across 34 provinces, comprising religious, social, and cultural; mass media; law and public relations; youth; education; women and children; as well as research and development.

The latest addition to the forum occurred in 2022, when its Papua's and West Papua's forum representatives were formed.

The BNPT expects that with such large coverage, the forum could initiate mutual cooperation among many in a bid to drive the spirit of unity in these political years.

"Fellows from FKPT can work together to initiate dialogues with our partners in the regional scope, so as to initiate the spirit of unity," he stated.

Such measure has to be taken, so that people in Indonesia could take part in the general election, a grand event that is held only once in every five years, without harboring hatred and violence in their hearts, he affirmed.
