Kyoto, Japan (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on Wednesday conveyed Indonesia's readiness to become Japan’s main partner for halal business development, especially in Kyoto.

"Indonesia is ready to become the main partner for halal business development in Kyoto," he said during a meeting with Kyoto Governor Takatoshi Nishiwaki at the Kyoto Guest House.

Japan will hold “Expo 2025” in Kansai and Kyoto Prefectures, he noted.

"Kyoto will be visited by many guests from various countries," he added.

The Vice President emphasized that the development of the halal business in Kyoto can be carried out through cooperation in halal certification for Japanese products, especially for foods, beverages, and medicines.

"I also hope that the processed food industry from Kyoto can expand their branch to Indonesia," he said.

In addition, the development of the halal business in Japan has been approved by the nation’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, Amin noted.

This was conveyed by Prime Minister Kishida when Vice President Amin came to Japan to attend the funeral of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe in 2022.

"When I met Prime Minister Kishida, I said that apart from trade and cultural issues, I also shared economic and sharia issues, including the halal industry with him. He welcomed it and even asked the relevant ministers to follow up," Amin disclosed.

Governor Nishiwaki also welcomed the offer of support for halal business development from Vice President Amin.

"Regarding what you are offering, I hope we can develop the halal industry in Kyoto," Nishiwaka said.

Meanwhile, regarding halal-certified products in Kyoto, the governor informed that their number has started to increase.

"We must inform this. The number of halal-certified food and beverages in Kyoto has increased," he stated.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi; head of the Vice Presidential Secretariat, Ahmad Erani Yustika; special staff to the Vice President, Masykuri Abdillah; Indonesian Consul General in Osaka, Diana Emilla Sari Sutikno; and assistant deputy of foreign relations, Lukman Hakim Siregar, accompanied the Vice President during the visit.
