The event was a part of the Correctional Sports Week held to mark the 59th Correctional Services Day themed “National Inmates Sports Day,” the minister said in a statement.
The match was held to show the public that inmates are their friends who have the opportunity to become good, law-abiding citizens, and who will not repeat their crimes again, he added.
This aligns with the goal of the correctional system, he added.
Inmates should be treated as humans with rights just like any other people, though they have been restrained behind walls and iron bars, he stressed.
"Correctional should not be done alone, we certainly need support from various parties," he said.
The match was joined by 43 ambassadors, representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, and representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Officials from Laoly's ministry as well as the head of the Correctional Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) also took part in the match.
The ambassadors who attended the match were from Egypt, Venezuela, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Tunisia, Thailand, Ukraine, Croatia, North Korea, Seychelles, Nigeria, Hungary, and Armenia.
They were also joined by ambassadors from Morocco, Italy, Kenya, South Africa, Pakistan, Dominica, the Netherlands, Singapore, Sudan, Germany, and Mozambique.
