Hopefully, it will be launched next year
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) is expanding emission test activities for motorized vehicles throughout Indonesia in order to increase public awareness to maintain vehicle engines and use low-emission fuels.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Alue Dohong, stated that his side was developing an integrated emission test application that could be used in every region.

"Hopefully, it will be launched next year. All provinces will be invited, and they must apply the emission test in their respective region," Dohong noted after conducting the vehicle emission test at the KLHK Office in Central Jakarta, Tuesday.

The deputy minister emphasized that emission test activities are an obligation for every motorized vehicle owner in accordance with Article 206 of Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management.

The emission test is conducted in accordance with SNI 09-7118.1-2005 for gasoline-powered vehicles with idle conditions and SNI 7118-2:2008 for diesel-fueled vehicles with free acceleration, he explained.

The emission standards for motorized vehicles tested must comply with the provisions of Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 5 of 2006 concerning emission thresholds for old motorized vehicles or refer to the respective regional regulations that regulate emission tests more specifically, he elaborated.

Dohong noted that Jakarta Province had imposed mandatory emission tests in accordance with Governor Regulation Number 66 of 2020 on the testing of motorized vehicle exhaust emissions.

He expressed hope that the emission test results can be connected directly to the emission test application system in future.

"In future, I hope all provinces in Indonesia will conduct the test to assess vehicles operating in Indonesia do not contribute to emitting greenhouse gases or toxic gases and others," he remarked.

He stated that currently, the ministry has 56 air quality monitoring devices installed at each province and district or city to monitor air quality in real-time.

Dohong noted that his side continues to improve the air quality monitoring devices. In addition, the increasingly massive emission test activities for motorized vehicles aim to improve air quality in Indonesia.

"Apart from that, we are also preventing forest and land fires and contributing to their impact on air quality. We will increase our efforts to prevent it," he stated.
