Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa echoed her commitment to supporting the central government's program to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030.

"From the data released by the Health Ministry, currently, East Java is in the second-highest position for TB cases. We are ranked number two after West Java. Our total cases are 81,753," the governor stated in Surabaya, Friday.

Parawansa affirmed that her side was motivated by the data to increase vigilance against the disease.

"We are seriously committed to TB elimination by 2030, with a target of reducing it to 65 cases per 100 thousand population," she remarked.

Referring to the national data, the number of TB patients in Indonesia increased in 2022, with 717,941 TB cases detected. This figure grew 61.98 percent as compared to 443,235 cases in the previous year, she stated.

To this end, Parawansa emphasized that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the TB eradication program should be strengthened.

"The provincial government cannot work alone. To fully support the central government's program, we need cooperation from all elements," she remarked.

Parawansa issued East Java Governor Regulation Number 50 of 2022 concerning Tuberculosis Disease Control.

According to the governor, the issuance of this regulation aligns with the efforts to increase the detection of suspected TB through the E-Tibi Application and enforce TB 06 at all healthcare facilities.

"This step is taken to achieve the target of finding 90 percent of the TB cases from the estimated national TB cases or to detect 16,700 TB cases per week," she remarked.

In addition, all public and private health service facilities should show full involvement, especially in conducting screening.

"We must also improve the quality of public and private health services, including independent doctors' practice and clinics in providing TB treatment and service," she stated.
