Beijing (ANTARA) - Prime Minister of China Li Qiang encouraged the international community to uphold multilateralism and to maintain stability of the global industry and supply chain.

"We are confident that we can achieve our goals and carry out our duty of realizing economic growth this year," Qiang stated during a meeting with Acting Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva during the Boao Forum in Hainan Province, Wednesday (Mar 29).

According to the prime minister, by the first quarter of this year, China had managed to maintain the momentum of economic recovery and also stabilized it after three years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With China's strong, promising, and prospective economic foundation, Qiang stated that his government would apply several measures, such as strengthening coordination on macroeconomic policies, broadening trade openness, and minimalizing risks through correct measures.

"However, for that to happen, multilateralism needs to be sustained. Hence, we encourage the international community to maintain security and stability of the global industry supply chain," the recently appointed prime minister to replace his senior, Li Keqiang, stated.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Li stated that China would continue to intensify its cooperation with IMF in developing a fairer global management system.

In response, Georgieva lauded China for its efforts in maintaining multilateralism as well as its contributions in preventing debt crisis in third world countries.

"The IMF is ready for further cooperation with China," the IMF director noted.

She affirmed that China will account for over a third of global economic growth.

This year's Bao Forum was attended by several head of states and governments, including those of Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, and Ivory Coast. They would express their thoughts and expectations on global economic recovery.

The forum, drawing inspiration from the World Economic Forum (WEF), has been held annually in Hainan, a tropical island located south of China.
