"One of the preparations has been a 24-hour guard by joint officers starting Friday. There are 380 personnel from the Public Order Security Agency (Satpol PP), the transportation office, and other related regional officers (who will be a part of the guard),” West Jakarta Mayor Uus Kuswanto informed here on Friday.
He said the joint personnel will keep Kota Tua safe with the help of the military and the police.
One of the reasons for posting security personnel is to ensure that the area, especially the square, is safe from street vendors. The security officers have also been tasked with arresting buskers and beggars there.
Kuswanto said that more tourists are expected to come to the Kota Tua area during this year's Eid holiday period, which will also prompt buskers, beggars, and street vendors to emerge.
Hence, he added, a strict watch is needed so that the area remains safe from them.
Moreover, his administration will deploy transportation agency officers to regulate the traffic flow around the area so that vehicles do not get stuck in traffic jams for too long.
The officers will also direct motorists to park their vehicles at the Kota Intan Assisted Location.
Through these efforts, Kuswanto said he expects that the Old Town area will remain orderly and clean amid an influx of visitors during this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday.
According to information received by ANTARA, the Old Town Tourism area in Tamansari, West Jakarta, will remain open for tourists during the Ramadan month.
Head of the Old Town Area Management Unit, Dedy Tarmizi, said that the historical tourist destination, which was built in the Dutch Colonial era, operates in accordance with the policies of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office.
"We continue to follow the tourism office's regulation regarding the opening hours and other provisions," Tarmizi said.
Kota Tua is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
