We propose to expand its (AUVM’s) scope of utilization for other health certificates in collaboration with Indonesia's G20 (Presidency) program last year (2022), namely the Federated Public Trust Directory.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is promoting the digitalization of the health sector during its 2023 ASEAN chairmanship through two programs—the ASEAN Universal Verification Mechanism (AUVM) and the ASEAN Knowledge Management Platform, the Health Ministry has said.

Expert staff for health technology at the ministry Setiaji told ANTARA here on Monday that AUVM was initially used to check the validity of COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

“We propose to expand its (AUVM’s) scope of utilization for other health certificates in collaboration with Indonesia's G20 (Presidency) program last year (2022), namely the Federated Public Trust Directory,” he said.

After Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency ended, the program was adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO), he added.

The expert staff stated that all ASEAN countries will be encouraged to become a part of the Federated Public Trust Directory, thus, all WHO and ASEAN member countries will be able to mutually verify the validity of several other health certificates issued by each country in the future.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Knowledge Management Platform will be developed to make data and information regarding the health sector more accessible to ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat, he informed.

He noted that the idea of having an integrated information management system had been conveyed by Indonesia at the 14th ASEAN Health Ministers’ Meeting (AHMM) in Cambodia on August 29–30, 2019.

"(At the time) we promoted a (joint) understanding that digital transformation and technology would play an important role in improving health cooperation in ASEAN. However, it is only able to be realized now after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak," he said.

According to Setiaji, the ASEAN Knowledge Management Platform will also allow ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat to monitor the development of health business processes in the region accurately.

"By using this platform, ASEAN member countries and the ASEAN Secretariat can record information and maintain documents related to the health sector in the region for better strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation attempts to boost productivity, performance, and governance (of the sector)," he explained.

He added that the need for establishing a health information platform had been emphasized in the Mid-Term Review of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025 published in October 2020, which recommended that online platforms be developed to increase human resource capacity.
