Jokowi made this statement after visiting Cepogo Market in Boyolali, Central Java, on Monday.
"I remind all regional heads, especially in Central Java, East Java, and West Java, to prepare their regions ahead of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming," he noted as broadcast virtually from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube Channel on Monday.
He urged governors to be vigilant regarding the expected population mobility during the 2023 Eid homecoming season, estimated to reach 123 million homecomers, compared to last year's 86 million.
The president also reminded the Transportation Minister, National Police Chief, and State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister to prepare their divisions for the increase in homecomers this year.
He said that approximately, the number of homecomers this year would be significant.
"Please, be careful with this big number," he emphasized.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi earlier stated that the 2023 Eid homecoming period would involve the movement of 123 million people, mainly traveling by four-wheeler and two-wheeler vehicles.
He reminded travelers to avoid traveling with two-wheeled vehicles due to the high number of traffic accidents involving motorcycles.
The surge in vehicle numbers during the Eid homecoming has the potential to create congestion, particularly on the Merak Port route and the Jakarta-Semarang toll road, he stated.
