From April 15–21, 2023, heavy rainfall has been forecast in Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua, BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati said here on Monday.
Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta), Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, East Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, and West Papua are also likely to record heavy rainfall.
According to BMKG's forecast, there may be heavy rain in Aceh, West Java, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan in the period from April 22 to 28.
Meanwhile, similar weather conditions may also be witnessed from April 29 to May 5 in North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
According to Karnawati, heavy rain could trigger wet hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods and landslides.
"Thus, we urge all homecomers, transportation service providers, and transportation operators to be careful of the likelihood of extreme weather during the homecoming flow," she said.
Indonesia is currently entering the transition period from rainy season to dry season, she noted.
During this transition, weather conditions may suddenly change from hot to rainy or vice versa because the direction of the wind may vary greatly, she explained.
However, in general, the weather in the morning will tend to be bright, followed by cloudy conditions in the noon, and rain in the afternoon or evening, she said.
Karnawati said that cumulonimbus clouds usually grow during the transition from morning to noon. They are shaped like a cauliflower and are grayish in color with clear edges.
When afternoon comes, the color of the clouds becomes darker and they soon release rain.
