Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that a number of toll road business entities (BUJT) are ready to provide a 20 percent discount during the 2023 Eid homecoming period.

The discount will apply on toll roads on Java Island, the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar-Kayu Agung Toll Road section, and the Binjai-Medan Toll Road section in Sumatra.

"I have agreed to a 20 percent discount on the toll roads in Java. Two days before the holiday and two days after the holiday. Yesterday, there was a proposal from the toll road business entity (BUJT),” he informed at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The discount will be offered two days before the Eid holiday period and two days after.

In Sumatra, the toll roads that will apply the 20 percent discount are the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar-Kayu Agung toll road and the Binjai-Medan toll road.

“So, I think there will be discounts for those who go home and back later, especially Bakauheni to Terbanggi Besar-Kayu Agung and vice versa," the minister said.

However, some toll roads, such as Tangerang-Merak toll road, will not apply the discount, he added.

"I'm waiting for Merak, but they have no proposal yet. Hopefully, they can provide a discount there," he said.

According to Hadimuljono, President Joko Widodo has ordered that all toll roads with a functional status be used for the 2023 Eid homecoming.

Apart from that, national roads have also been prepared to support the homecoming flow this year.

“Hopefully, it's ready for the homecoming and the flow back," he added.

Overall, Hadimuljono said that his ministry has added infrastructure to ensure the smooth flow of homecoming and returning travelers for this 2023 Eid.

Its efforts have included widening the lanes on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, widening the lanes around the Cipali Toll rest area, expanding the toll rest area, making the Cisumdawu Toll Road operational, West Java, and reducing obstacles (debottlenecking) to Solo’s access to Yogyakarta.
