Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has predicted that the 2023 Eid al-Fitr exodus peaks would occur in two phases starting Friday (April 14).

"It is predicted the Eid exodus peaks will occur in two phases starting from tomorrow," Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Public Relations Department Senior Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said at a press conference here on Thursday.

After the first peak on April 14, the second peak is expected to occur on April 18–19, he informed.

Meanwhile, the Eid reverse exodus flow, when travelers return from their respective hometowns to Jakarta, is also predicted to occur in two phases, with the first phase expected on April 25, he noted.

"The Eid reverse exodus predicted on April 25–26, 2023, is part of the first reverse exodus peak," Andiko said.

The second peak of the Eid reverse exodus is expected from April 30 to May 1, he added.

The Jakarta police is implementing several measures to ensure safe and smooth Eid exodus travel this year, he said.

"The first (measure) is through the coordinating meeting continued by disseminating (information about realizing) safe and memorable Eid travel, and we will also conduct traffic adjustment measures," Andiko added.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police will also collaborate and optimize police service points in its jurisdiction within the Greater Jakarta agglomeration, including Depok, Bekasi, Tangerang, and South Tangerang cities, to ensure smooth Eid travel this year, he said.

Earlier, the Transportation Ministry estimated that at least 123.8 million residents would return to their hometowns during this year's Eid exodus, an increase from 85 million in 2022.

Of the total projected travelers this year, 99.22 million are expected to travel by land, including 27.32 million residents by private car and 22.77 million by bus.
