South Lampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The number of Eid exodus travelers crossing to Merak Port, Banten, from Bakauheni Port, Lampung, was recorded at 51,208 on Wednesday, state-run ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia informed.

Of the total passengers who entered Bakauheni Port, 49,498 were on vehicles and 1,710 were non-motorists, general manager of PT ASDP (Bakauheni branch), Rudi Sunarko, said here on Wednesday.

"The number of passengers crossing to Merak Port has continued to increase," he added.

As per data, as of 8 a.m. local time on April 19, 2023, the number of passengers crossing to Merak Port from Bakauheni Port had increased.

According to Sunarko, the number of private vehicles crossing through Bakauheni Port on Wednesday stood at 6,550, an increase from 5,517 on April 18.

Meanwhile, 606 buses crossed compared to 631 the previous day. The number of trucks making the crossing also declined from 1,326 to 1,702.

Meanwhile, at least 525 motorcycles crossed through Bakauheni Port on Wednesday. Their number stood at 408 the previous day.

Sunarko appealed to ferry passengers to buy tickets in advance.

"We ask prospective travelers from Java Island to Sumatra and vice versa who will use ASDP crossing services to buy tickets in advance," he said.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi earlier said that the government has decided to add collective leave dates, starting from April 19, to give more time to exodus travelers and prevent congestion on exodus routes.

Between 8 a.m. on April 18 and 6 a.m. on April 19, the number of passengers recorded at Merak Post was 106,637, a decline of 18 percent compared to 129,866 in the year-ago period.

ASDP has deployed 4 free shuttle buses and 20 minibusses (angkot) at Cilegon Station to accommodate travelers heading to Merak Port.

The shuttle service to Merak Port from Cilegon Station aims to provide comfort to Eid exodus travelers.
