Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat invited schools in the province to strengthen students’ knowledge regarding their regions’ main potentials that can be developed to improve welfare.

“Educational institutions or schools must direct students, open their perspectives on the potentials of regions,” Laiskodat noted in a written statement received from the Public Relations Bureau of the NTT Regional Secretary here on Saturday.

The governor made the statement while handing over special allocation funds (DAK) and general allocation funds (DAU) worth Rp12.4 billion (around US$845,057) to high schools and vocational schools in Lembata District, NTT.

He stated that in carrying out the educational function for students, teachers or schools need to offer perspective and knowledge, so that children can become familiar with and gain a comprehensive understanding of the key potentials of their regions.

“Or provide information regarding the region’s economic strength in certain sectors,” he remarked.

He drew attention to the various main potentials of regions in NTT, such as fishery, agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism.

According to Laiskodat, if students can recognize and understand those various potentials, then they will definitely be interested in learning more deeply and make the most of those potentials to produce products and generate economic income.

The governor noted that the regions’ potentials that could be developed as a source of economic income are moringa processing and aquaculture, among others.

“Thus, schools must give vast perspective and knowledge to students, so that they know their regions’ resources that encourages them to innovate and create products,” he remarked.

During the working visit, the governor also handed over social assistance in the form of rice to support the handling of extreme poverty in Lembata District.
