Head of Polri's Public Relations Sandi Nugroho said in a statement on Sunday (April 30) that Polri's leadership had given instruction to all police officers in the region to prepare security and contingency plans.
This operation involves more than 12 thousand security personnel.
From the total personnel, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has deployed 4,216 joint personnel comprising 3,318 Polri personnel, 690 personnel from the National Defense Forces (TNI), and 208 personnel from the Jakarta provincial government.
Meanwhile, the West Java Regional Police has deployed 1,019 joint personnel to maintain public order during the workers’ action in several regions.
The Central Java Regional Police has also deployed 4,319 joint personnel, while the East Java Regional Police has stationed 3,360 joint personnel.
Specifically for Jakarta, there are four spots where workers would gather, Nugroho said.
"These comprise the Istana Negara, MPR/DPR (Indonesian legislative body) Building, Senayan Archery Field, and Rawa Badak Sports Ground in North Jakarta," he revealed.
Moreover, to maintain public security and order during the International Workers' Day commemoration, traffic engineering has been applied at locations where workers conduct their activities.
"Flow engineering and diversion will be situational in nature," Nugroho stated.
On the occasion, he also urged workers commemorating May Day and conducting rallies to prioritize safety.
Polri will be ready in securing workers in conveying their aspirations, he noted.
"However, in conveying their opinion and aspiration, they should do it in an orderly, safe manner and in accordance with the applicable laws," he said.
