Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated that the government has continued to study the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) both at the domestic and global level.

"In the face of the AI era, the Indonesian government continues to conduct studies and observations on technology at the domestic and global level to formulate effective policies," Amin remarked in Jakarta, Wednesday.

The vice president alluded to several economic experts and financial agencies during the initial period of the COVID-19 pandemic that predicted that robots and machines would massively replace the human workforce, given the latter's immunity to the virus.

However, two years later, the predictions proved wrong.

"This event encourages us to take more careful steps in formulating policies, so that the development of digital technology will help to provide a bright future for our workforce," the VP pointed out.

Amin invited all parties, ranging from the government to industry and economic actors, academics and scientists, as well as the public to work in collaboration amid technological developments.

Furthermore, the VP expressed hope that related ministries and institutions would be able to create digital talents, who can offset the complexity of the digitalization process.

In addition, he appealed to all stakeholders to make all-out efforts to create an effective, innovative, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem that can be accessed by the entire nation.

To do so, he deemed it necessary to expand the accessibility of digital financial products and services to various remote regions in Indonesia.

In his remarks, Amin also drew attention to the event of a shift in public behavior in the form of transition from conventional to digital transactions during the pandemic.

He stated that the shift was encouraged by the idea that digitalization serves as the most effective solution to help people during the restriction of physical movement during the pandemic.

With that in mind, the VP hoped that all parties would promote the expansion of accessibility of digital financial services that in turn would help to encourage potent, sustainable, and equitable national economic purchases.
