Surabaya (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) disseminated information about the 2024 General Elections during Car Free Day on Darmo Road, Surabaya, on Sunday, to raise people's awareness of the upcoming event.

"This information dissemination is being conducted as part of the 2024 General Elections Parade, which has been hosted in Surabaya for a week now," said Subairi, a member of the Surabaya General Election Committee, during the event.

The initiative, which was met with people's enthusiasm, particularly among those participating in the car-free day, is filled with several activities, including workouts and flash mobs, he said.

The staff from regional election units took part in a fun walk along the road where the Car Free Day takes place, with music blaring in the background.

They also handed out flyers to people, which are filled with informative content about the upcoming election, including a call to exercise their right to vote and a list of the 18 political parties. They reminded people to come and vote on February 14, 2024.

He highlighted the importance of informing the people of Surabaya about the approaching election, hence the information was spread massively through various mediums and segments.

"One of the ways we do this is through events like Car Free Day. We personally inform the public about the 2024 General Elections," he stressed.

He affirmed that the people were eager to participate in the KPU's initiative, from the start when they worked out together until the very end of the event, where they took part in a quiz that offered prizes.

"It is not enough for us to just inform; we also have to educate the voters so that they can become informed voters in the 2024 General Elections," he concluded.

A participant in the event's mass workout, Teguh Hadi, opined that the initiative needs to be improved because it can serve as a helpful reminder for people that the election is just months away.

"At least improve it more, so that there will be plenty of people who come to the polling stations to vote. One of the efforts is by spreading more information," he said.
