Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) on Monday began verifying the administrative documents of prospective House of Representatives (DPR) candidates for the 2024 General Elections.

The verification phase is being conducted on May 15-23, following the registration period that took place on May 1-14.

"Starting May 15, 2023, the KPU will verify administrative documents of prospective legislative candidates," KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari noted during a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday evening (May 14).

The KPU will report the results of the document verification to each political party registering candidates after the process is completed, he noted.

"If we find any documents not correct or not valid, then political parties will be given a chance to resubmit the documents in the revision period," Asy'ari explained.

The KPU head noted that the document verification of candidates running for provincial-, district-, and city-level legislatures (DPRD) will undergo the same process at their respective KPU offices.

All national political parties qualified for the 2024 Elections have submitted their DPR candidates' registration documents before the deadline on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Asy'ari then expressed gratitude to the 18 political parties that have registered their candidates for the DPR election.

"We noted that all have submitted (the names of) their candidates to KPU for further processing," he remarked.
