"The national agenda is planned to be opened by President Joko Widodo," West Sumatra regional secretary Hansastri informed here on Monday.
According to him, the Penas Tani Week will be attended by thousands of farmers from across Indonesia and representatives of countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The President's presence, Hansastri said, is expected to increase the interest of all provinces in Penas Tani XVI.
Therefore, the event must be prepared as well as possible, he added.
"This is a momentum for West Sumatra to promote regional potential not only in agriculture and animal husbandry, but also tourism," Hansastri said.
A number of activities will enliven the 16th National Week of Indonesian Farmers and Fishermen, including a talk show with the President and some state officials, deliberation forums, and professional meetings with stakeholders, he informed.
"There are 12 professional farmers and fishermen associations who will hold meetings on the agenda from June 10–15, 2023," he said.
A meeting of ASEAN farmers and partners, temu sukses or a meeting between farmers and extension workers, as well as an exhibition on agricultural, fisheries, and forestry development are also planned as part of the event.
Penas Tani XVI will also feature a national livestock expo and contest, a discussion on the development of digitalization and an agribusiness information network, and a agribusiness meeting on five commodities.
It will have horticulture, plantations, animal husbandry, and forestry-related forums as well.
Penas Tani XVI will also include an agribusiness technology meeting and an entrepreneurial workshop for farmers and fishermen.
"At the end of the event, participants will take part in a comparative study and educational tour," Hansastri said.
With maximum preparation, the implementation of Penas Tani XVI in West Sumatra can be made more successful than in previous years, he added.
