Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) -

First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo attended the celebration of the 51st Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) Movement Unity Day (HKG) in Medan, North Sumatra, on Wednesday.

The event was attended by the management of PKK Mobilization Teams (TP PKK) from the provincial and district/city levels across Indonesia.

As the main patron of the PKK, during the event the First Lady cut a nasi tumpeng, a traditional dish consisting of a cone-shaped mound of rice often served during special occasions. She also held a dialogue with two PKK cadres on stage.

The event was also attended by TP PKK Chairwoman Tri Tio Karnavian, the spouses of ministers, and other figures, including TP PKK Medan City Chairperson Kahiyang Ayu, daughter of First Lady Iriana and President Joko Widodo.

During the event, the First Lady listened to the aspirations of two PKK cadres from Tebingtinggi and Siantar cities.

The two cadres, who are senior citizens, expressed their delight at having the opportunity to continue their activities in their respective regions. They mentioned that they have been active in the organization for more than 20 years.

On the occasion, Iriana requested that the two dedicated cadres be awarded a certificate of appreciation and a gold pin.

PKK cadres are known to have a strong work ethic in carrying out organizational programs that align with the government priority programs, she said.

The PKK movement has grown from the grassroots level as the achievement of its goals requires the active participation of all levels of society, she added.

The event was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between TP PKK, the National Food Agency (Bapanas/NFA), and PT Nestle Indonesia. It also included the launch of a commitment to stunting-free Indonesian families.

At the event, awards were presented to inspiring PKK cadres from across Indonesia and to women working in the fields of education, health, society, culture, environment, and agriculture.

The event was enlivened by art performances organized by TP PKK of Medan City, including dances that showcased the diverse ethnicities and cultures of North Sumatra.
