Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - At least 40 young West Java musicians auditioned for the 2023 Youth Music Camp organized by the West Java Tourism and Culture Office at West Java Cultural Park, Bandung city.

"The climax of these activities will be the Youth Music Camp-Melbourne Symphony Orchestra collaboration concert, (which will be) held at the PPAG Auditorium of Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung," coordinator of the Youth Music Camp, Djaelani, informed here on Thursday.

The 2023 Youth Music Camp aims to develop classical music talents and especially encourage interest in string instruments, such as violin, viola, cello, and double bass, he added.

The event is a collaboration with musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO).

Auditionees for the camp initially underwent a selection stage that tested their skills in the sonata or concerto compositions.

In the next stage, auditions were held in front of a panel of judges in coordination with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

"West Java-MSO Youth Music Camp is a golden opportunity for young West Java musicians to develop their skills in string instruments while fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through networking with world-class musicians," Djaelani said.

The event is expected to revive young people's love for orchestral music, as earlier, music concerts were restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.

"The young people's passion for music must stay alive and, of course, new talents from West Java need to emerge," he said.

Of the total 40 young music talents who auditioned for the camp, the panel will select 30 who are deemed qualified to pass the audition.

One of the auditionees, Ramandha (23), said that this was the first time he had participated in an international music concert audition.

"This is my first time participating in an orchestra audition. I was only (auditioning) for on-campus (concerts)," Ramandha, a student of the Indonesian University of Education (UPI), who is majoring in music, added.
