Tokyo, Japan (ANTARA) - Pertamina has stated that it is giving more attention to climate change by exploring new energy sources through the development of green businesses, which are expected to contribute more revenue.

According to Salyadi Saputra, the state oil and gas company's business strategy, portfolio, and development director, the revenue contribution of the state oil and gas company from fossil fuels still stands at around 82 percent.

Pertamina expects the new renewable energy business to help reduce this revenue contribution to 60 percent by 2030 and to 30-35 percent by 2060.

Saputra said that Pertamina has an obligation to ensure that energy is available, affordable, and reliable for the public. Balancing this with the transition to green energy sources is crucial for energy security.

He added that this will be a challenge for Pertamina, but the company has identified what it can do.

The development of new green businesses is a commitment from Pertamina to support the Indonesian government's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 or earlier.

Pertamina's new businesses include renewable energy, EV charging and swapping, blue/green hydrogen, nature-based solutions, battery and EVs, biofuel, integrated carbon capture and storage/utilization (CCS/CCUS), and carbon market business.

In addition to green business development, Pertamina is also working on an asset decarbonization road map, which includes a green power plant, losses reduction, armada electrification, static equipment electrification, carbon capture storage, and low-carbon fuel for fleets.

Pertamina will carry out decarbonization as outlined in the decarbonization road map, which consists of two pillars: decarbonization and new business building for renewable energy, according to Saputra.

Currently, Indonesia contributes 2-3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it the eighth-largest polluter in the world.

To make a significant contribution to global emission reduction efforts, Indonesia has undertaken a greenhouse gas emission decarbonization project.
