Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower is striving to improve the competence of occupational safety and health (OSH) experts to reduce workplace accidents and work-related diseases and bolster work productivity.

The presence and roles of OSH experts at workplaces are strategic, Director General for the Development of Manpower Inspection and OSH at the Ministry Haiyani Rumondang said while opening the 2023 OSH Expert Competency Improvement agenda.

At workplaces, OSH experts are the people with particular expertise outside the ministry to monitor and ensure that OSH regulations are observed, she noted.

"Hence, besides becoming the ministry's strategic plan target, increasing the competency of OSH experts is very important as the medium of communication and education to allow them to improve their knowledge of OSH," she said, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Better OSH experts will ensure better OSH implementation at workplaces to help achieve zero workplace accidents and work-related diseases, she added.

Rumondang said that during the agenda, her side will provide information on new OSH policies and development for experts to study and discuss.

"Moreover, this agenda is expected to open new doors to collaboration and synergy to encourage all stakeholders to support the Manpower Ministry's role in pushing for the acceleration of human resource quality improvement," she said.

The director general also commended OSH experts who have performed their duty properly, including ensuring that OSH is enforced at workplaces and innovating new strategies to improve its implementation.

"We hope your efforts could be implemented and followed continuously and could be developed to improve understanding and awareness, of the workers in particular and the public in general, on OSH through the science and technology approach," Rumondang said.
