Jakarta (ANTARA) - The decision to discharge Inspector General Teddy Minahasa dishonorably demonstrates the National Police's firm stance toward unruly members, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has affirmed.

“The National Police's stance is clear in its decision-making,” he said after a technical meeting of the police's international relations division in Serpong, Tangerang, on Wednesday.

Minahasa's move to appeal against the decision of the Commission of Police Ethics Code on Tuesday (May 30, 2023) was within his rights as a citizen, he added.

"Regarding that appeal, I think that's a right which has been outlined by law," he said.

The National Police will follow up by holding a hearing after all the requirements have been met, Prabowo informed.

However, the police chief said he is confident that the results of the hearing will not be much different from the initial decision.

The Commission of Police Ethics Code gave a dishonorable discharge to Minahasa as an administrative sanction for ethical violations.

Minahasa had ordered Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dody Prawiranegara to take a certain quantity of methamphetamines — which were seized by the narcotics unit of the Bukittinggi Police Department— and replace them with 5 kilograms of alum.

The West Jakarta Court sentenced Minahasa to life in prison on May 9 after he was proven guilty of participating in promoting, selling, acting as an intermediary, swapping, and giving away more than 5kg of the narcotic listed as a non-plant drug of the first category.

He was proven to have violated Article 114 Number (2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, in conjunction with Article 55 Number (1) of the Criminal Code.

The case involved three police personnel and three civilians: former Bukittinggi Police chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dody Prawiranegara, police commissioner Kasranto, Adjunct First Police Inspector Janto Parluhutan Situmorang, Linda Pujiastuti, Muhammad Nasir, and Syamsul Maarif.
