Depok (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to the United States (US) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani visited the stand of the University of Indonesia (UI) at the 75th NAFSA Convention and Expo at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C.

The ambassador's entourage comprised Ambassador Roeslani; the embassy's Education and Culture Attache, Diah Ayu Maharani; and a representative from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek), Yayat Hendayana.

The entourage was welcomed by UI's Head of Public Relations and Public Information Bureau Amelita Lusia and UI's Head of the International Affairs Office Baiduri Widanarko.

In a press release received in Depok, West Java, on Saturday, Lusia said UI aimed to use NAFSA as a stage to carry out efforts to internationalize its institution by establishing a broader global network with higher education partners from other countries.

"This event brings together various parties involved in the world of education and serves as a platform for them to exchange information on measures to deal with challenges by sharing lessons, experiences, perspectives, and innovations in formulating approaches," she remarked.

Lusia expressed hope that UI would yield optimal results from its meetings with potential strategic partners at the event and attract them to forge cooperation with the university.

NAFSA took place from May 30 to June 2, 2023. In addition to UI, the event was attended by several Indonesian universities, such as Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Airlangga University (Unair), Padang State University (UNP), and University of Sumatera Utara (USU).

Widanarko, for her part, stated that UI's stand at the event had successfully attracted hundreds of visitors, some of whom had earlier established cooperation with the university through entering into memoranda of understanding (MoUs).

Furthermore, some of the visitors were keen to expand cooperation activities with UI, while others expressed interest in establishing academic cooperation and conducting joint lectures and research collaboration, she stated.

Meanwhile, Nizam, Kemendikbudristek's Acting Director General of Higher Education Research and Technology, noted that UI's participation at the event had contributed to the efforts in strengthening the bargaining power of Indonesia's higher education institutions.

He stated that the contribution was proven by UI's success in forging new cooperation and continuing existing ones with higher education partners from countries across the globe through various programs in the education, research, and innovation fields.
