"We appeal to everyone not to report or label the victim in a negative light, as it is essential that we play our part in the victim's recovery and improvement," said LPSK Commissioner Livia Iskandar.
She said this during a virtual candlelight vigil for victim R organized by women's organization Gerakan Perempuan Bersatu on Sunday (June 4) evening.
Iskandar emphasized the importance of maintaining the secrecy of the victim and her family's identity for their safety.
Furthermore, the commissioner emphasized that the victim and her family should be given space while she recovers in the hospital, including minimizing their interactions with people.
Iskandar highlighted that psychological recovery for the victim should be a top priority, and all parties should ensure that she is not exposed to news reports that could trigger trauma or cause inconvenience in the future.
Iskandar also stressed that no one should blame the victim for the ordeal she faced, as this would hinder her recovery.
"Blaming the victim is something that can weaken the victim's spirit, and victim-blaming behavior should be avoided, especially in her neighborhood," said the commissioner.
Iskandar expressed gratitude to all parties, including the medical, assistance, and advocacy teams, for their efforts in providing medical support and other aspects to facilitate the victim's speedy recovery.
Additionally, Iskandar encouraged all parties to enhance their synergy to ensure that the victim's rights are fulfilled.
